Overview

The faculty will be responsible for educational leadership, student instruction and advisement in Construction Management.

Qualifications

Education:

-Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or a related discipline and 10 years of professional experience in the management of construction projects with a minimum of 7 years in commercial, heavy/civil and/or industrial sectors. (Minimum)   

-Master's Degree in Construction Management or related discipline and 8 years of experience with a minimum of 7 years in commercial, heavy/civil and/or industrial sectors. (Desired)   

-Active membership in construction associations or organizations. (Minimum)

-Formal coursework in Education.  (Desired)

-Certified Professional Constructor or other industry certification. (Desired)

-Earned Doctorate in related discipline. (Desired

Experience:

-Experience in construction management computer applications.  (Minimum)            

-Experience in managing heavy-highway/civil projects.  (Desired) 

-Experience in multiple construction management areas including but not limited to: estimating, purchasing, negotiating, engineering, and jobsite management.  (Desired) 

-Two (2) years of professional teaching experience in an accredited construction program at the college/university level.  (Desired)

-Functional ability with microcomputer applications and Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic communications applications.  (Minimum)

Responsibilities

-Instruct theory and lab classes and evaluate student performance in the full spectrum of construction management skills including scheduling, estimating, productivity, cost control, planning, supervision, surveying, project management, safety, MEP, construction documents, structures, and project development. (Essential)

-Advise, schedule, and maintain accurate records on students. (Essential) 

-Write and update course syllabi; assist with curriculum review, revision, and development. (Essential) 

-Assist the Dean and Accreditation Coordinator with program accreditation activities. (Essential) 

-Engage in professional development and technological upgrading activities. (Essential) 

-Contribute to the betterment of the College through school/departmental committee participation. (Essential) 

-Contribute to the betterment of the College through College-wide committee participation. (Marginal) 

-Assist in the development of grant proposals and follow-up activities. (Marginal) 

-Maintain accurate written records of student performance. (Essential) 

-Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines. (Essential) 

-Assume responsibility for laboratory development, coordination and maintenance. (Essential) 

-Comply with College safety, hazardous waste disposal, and recycling policies. (Essential) 

-Assist the Dean and Department Head in developing instructional material lists, equipment specifications, department budget requests, and assist in planning and development of the master schedule. (Essential) 

-Provide coordination and supervision for instructional field trips, and work projects. (Essential)

-Provide advisement and oversight to student organizations including construction-related student organizations. (Marginal) 

-Attend school, department, and construction management curriculum meetings as requested. (Essential) 

-Assist in providing tours, school visits, and student recruitment activities scheduled by the College, school, and/or department. (Essential) 

-Assist the Dean, Assistant Dean, and/or Department Head with the development, documentation, and maintenance of student and institutional outcomes assessment activities. (Essential)

Physical Standards:

-Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.

Special Job Features:

-Will include some travel to off-campus instructional sites. 

-Finalists for teaching positions must be fluent in the English language (oral and written) - English Fluency in Higher Education Act.  (Pennsylvania Senate Bill 539/Act No. 76)  *Finalists for positions must present a sample lesson.  

-The terms and conditions of employment for this position are subject to all provisions of the bargaining agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association.   

-Candidates for the position must provide a project vita detailing relevant construction experiences. 

-Position is subject to a background check.

Pay Transparency

Commensurate with credentials submitted as applied to the College’s Faculty Salary System. As a point of reference, the salary range for new full-time faculty hired in various disciplines throughout the College for the 2023/24 academic year is $59,299 – $77,142. The wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for full-time teaching faculty, counselors and librarians (all regular College funded positions and certain grant/contract funded positions) are determined by the negotiated Agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association. If you are currently receiving an annuity from the State or Public School Employees’ Retirement System, employment at Pennsylvania College of Technology may affect your annuity status. If you are currently a member of either the State or Public School Employees’ Retirement System you may be required to contribute into the System.
