Overview

The faculty will be responsible for instructing Physician Assistant Studies students in the classroom and cadaver laboratory, preparing and delivering anatomical demonstrations, creating prosections, assisting students with dissections, and evaluating students through classroom assessment modalities and practical examinations in the laboratory.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Master's Degree in fields related to human gross anatomy. Required
  • Doctorate in fields related to human gross anatomy. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) to five (5) years performing human cadaver dissections/prosections. Preferred
  • One year of teaching cadaver-based human gross anatomy at the postsecondary level. Preferred
  • One year of teaching in a medical or health professions program. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Advanced knowledge of human gross anatomy. Required
  • Skilled at various methods of student instruction and assessment. Required
  • Ability to facilitate interactive learning in large and small group settings. Required
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and organizational skills. Required

 

Responsibilities

  • Instruct, supervise, evaluate and provide feedback to Physician Assistant Studies students in the cadaver laboratory course (including lecture and lab).
  • Supervise and guide students in cadaver dissection.
  • Effectively and accurately dissect/prosect cadavers according to Human Anatomy & Physiology Society (HAPS) guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate written records of student performance.
  • Assist with curriculum review, revision and development.
  • Maintain office hours according to contractual guidelines.
  • Maintain all annual compliances as outlined by the College, the Physician Assistant Studies program, HAPS, and the cadaver donor registry.
  • Conduct the annual safety meeting with students in affected programs, to include but not limited to: a review of all safety protocols for working with a cadaver, appropriate use of the cadaver laboratory, and the proper storage of cadaveric material.
  • Adhere to and ensure Federal, State and other requirements related to cadaver use, transfer, and storage are followed.
  • Routinely (at least weekly) inspect the cadaver lab facility for compliance with existing rules and regulations.
  • Serve as the College’s primary liaison with the Humanity Gifts Registry of Pennsylvania and Penn State College of Medicine at Hershey. This includes completing the “Extramural Use of Human Body or Body Parts” request to the Humanity Gifts Registry and other required documents needed for the acquisition of cadavers.
  • Return the cadavers to Hershey Medical Center by the date determined by the Physician Assistant Studies Director.
  • Pick up new cadavers prior to the start of each Fall semester.
  • Maintain anatomy lab teaching specimens.
  • Manage and sanitize the cadaver lab after each class and routinely throughout the semester to ensure the lab and equipment are properly cleaned, organized, and stored.
  • Participate in one Penn College Open House per year.
  • Physical Standards and Special Job Features

    Standing or walking for extended periods of time. Multiple physical positioning including full range of motion. Fine motor dexterity. Pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

    Pay Transparency

    Selected candidate will receive $6,960 for the Fall semester: $5,800 for teaching the 15-week, 4 Credit [3 lecture – 3 Lab] Human Cadaver Anatomy course and a one-credit stipend (currently $1,160) for performing other duties related to the safe, proper functioning of the cadaver lab.
