Overview

The Dean is responsible for strategic and fiscal planning, faculty and staff selection, development and evaluation, program development and review, and leadership in the School of Business, Arts & Sciences.

 

We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible, with flexibility for a start date no later than July 1, 2025, to accommodate candidates who may need to complete their obligations through the current academic year

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Doctorate or terminal degree in subject area appropriate to School's programs, Required or
  • Master's Degree in subject area appropriate to School's programs and relevant work experience that qualifies individual to perform functions of the position. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years administrative experience in higher education or the equivalent. Required
  • Experience in developing and implementing innovative approaches to instruction. Required
  • Substantive experience in curriculum development and faculty evaluation. Required
  • Three (3) years of full-time teaching experience in higher education. Preferred
  • Experience in hospitality/business management. Preferred
  • Substantive experience in grant writing and grant management. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the School of Business, Arts & Sciences
    • Assume a leadership role for curriculum needs assessment and development.
    • Develop and monitor new school initiatives and related special projects.
    • Develop programs and strategies for long-term solutions that will assist and benefit new student's recruitment and their retention.
    • Conduct program evaluations and program review results/recommendations.
    • Recommend to the VPAA/Provost the development, implementation, continuance, revision or phaseout of academic programs.
    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation and documentation of catalog revisions.
    • Develop and oversee outcomes assessment for the School.
    • Coordinate accreditation process and requirements specific to School programs.
    • In coordination with Assistant Deans and department heads, develop master schedule and respond to faculty/contractual requests/requirements.
    • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of catalog revisions and printed and online marketing materials.
    • Supervise the development and evaluation of the School's articulation efforts.
    • Review/process paperwork related to curriculum changes, grade changes, external course transfers, pre/corequisite waivers, course substitutions, drop/adds and other student transactions.
  • Recruitment & Retention
    • Supervise the school marketing activities in coordination with the Public Relations & Marketing and Admissions offices.
    • Oversee the School's activities for visitors including annual events like Open House.
    • Oversee Assistant Dean's leadership of School tours, student orientation, and scheduling of new students.
    • Resolve student issues/problems within the School.
  • Restaurant & Catering
    • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Business & Hospitality, the Dean of Business, Arts & Sciences will:
    • Assist faculty with and assign the professional staff to planning of menus, brochures, promotional literature and support documentation.
    • Ensure effective and efficient operation of Le Jeune Chef Restaurant and Catering.
    • Provide leadership in aligning the priorities of the academic programs with those of the professional operations.
    • Partnering with Office of Facilities & Events, provide leadership for effective planning and execution of special events.
  • Personnel
    • In conjunction with Assistant Deans, prepare job descriptions; recruit in coordination with People & Culture, interview, and recommend for hire new faculty and staff.
    • Orient new faculty & staff.
    • Supervise and/or evaluate appropriate faculty and staff in accordance with the faculty evaluation plan.
    • Provide leadership and support for faculty and staff within the School for continued professional growth and development.
    • Deal with School personnel issues and decisions in consultation with People & Culture.
    • Whenever possible anticipate faculty issues/problems and intervene for prompt resolution.
    • Become familiar with the Penn College Education Association Agreement and ensure school compliance with all parameters.
  • Planning & Budgeting
    • Lead the collaborative development and execution of the School's four-year plan.
    • Advocate for and drive strategies aimed at achieving the School's mission and vision.
    • Investigate, articulate, and implement changes to School functions and/or systems that enhance student learning and/or administrative efficiencies.
    • Manage a dynamic budget for each separate division, which include multiple revenue and cost lines.
    • Define budget parameters on an annual basis using enrollment projections, faculty and staff input, and institutional initiatives with assistance from the Assistant Deans.
    • Manage a dynamic budget for the Le Jeune Chef Restaurant and Catering that includes multiple revenue and cost lines.
    • Update on a systematic basis the capital and operating needs for the School.
    • Supervise facilities & equipment; recommend changes/upgrades; monitor utilization and development as required.

    • Guide departmental leadership of program advisory committees.
    • Establish and facilitate business/industry/other education contacts associated with the instructional process.
    • Coordinate with College Relations for grants and donations, including development of specifications, guiding the purchasing process, and closeout.
    • Provide leadership for non-credit activities within the School.

Pay Transparency

Based on minimum education and experience qualifications the yearly salary range is $135,000 - $150,000.
