Overview

Pennsylvania College of Technology, Counseling Services, has a Counselor position starting January, 2025. This person will conduct intakes, counsel students using a short-term therapy model, and provide crisis management. This is a fixed-term, on-campus position requiring 37.5 hours per week over 185 days per year, aligned with the academic calendar and including limited summer responsibilities. The appointment will span the Spring 2025 and the 2025-26 academic year.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Master's Degree In Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related discipline. Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Licensed in state of PA. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years work experience as a counselor providing assessment and time-limited counseling and therapy. Required
  • Experience in the development and implementation of treatment plans and the knowledge base needed to interpret psychological diagnoses within a short-term therapy model. Required
  • Experience working with college populations. Preferred
  • Experience with Titanium EMR. Preferred

  • Strong crisis assessment and crisis management skills. Required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, parents/family members, faculty/staff, and the public. Required
  • Demonstrated understanding of ethical and legal issues in mental health practice. Required
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a stressful environment. Required
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with interfacing departments. Required
  • Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, parent/family members, and faculty/staff. Required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Required
  • Functional ability with computers and requisite software packages, and experience with electronic scheduling and record keeping systems. Required
  • Strong problem-solving and listening skills; sound judgment, initiative, and discretion. Required
  • Established track record of collaboration with campus and community partners. Preferred

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide assessment and time limited counseling and therapy for students.
  • Consult with parents, faculty, campus offices, and students when appropriate and with appropriate authorizations to provide quality care to students.
  • Maintain clinical records and necessary statistics/documentation of therapeutic and other client contacts.
  • Follow ethical and professional best practices of the counseling profession to include maintaining confidentiality and respect for diversity.
  • Responsible for office coverage as necessary.
  • Provide crisis intervention counseling and follow professional referral protocols as appropriate, including daytime and evening/weekend services as needed.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and case review.
  • Participate in internal and external staff development activities.

    Pay Transparency

    Commensurate with credentials submitted as applied to the College’s Faculty Salary System. As a point of reference, the salary range for new full-time faculty hired in various disciplines throughout the College for the 2024/25 academic year is $60,563 – $78,407. The wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for full-time teaching faculty, counselors and librarians (all regular College funded positions and certain grant/contract funded positions) are determined by the negotiated Agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association. If you are currently receiving an annuity from the State or Public School Employees’ Retirement System, employment at Pennsylvania College of Technology may affect your annuity status. If you are currently a member of either the State or Public School Employees’ Retirement System you may be required to contribute into the System.
