Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program or a graduate of an ABMS or AOA-approved medical school. Required
  • PA must hold a Master's degree or Master's degree in progress with a plan for completion within one year of hire. Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must be a Physician Assistant/Physician Associate (ARC-PA requirement); currently licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Pennsylvania. Required
  • Must hold current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification without restrictions in any state of the United States where licensing occurred. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess at least three years of full-time higher education experience at the time of appointment (ARC-PA requirement). Required
  • Five (5) years in a practice as physician assistant or physician and has supervised physician assistants. Preferred
  • Administrative experience. Preferred
  • Experience in curriculum development, faculty selection, and program evaluation. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership and Administration
    • Assume primary responsibility for continuing development, implementation, evaluation, revision, organization and direction of Physician Assistant curriculum to assure attainment of program objectives.
    • In conjunction with faculty, continuously evaluate the program’s goals, objectives, content, outcomes assessments, and board examination pass rates.
    • Oversee the instructional objectives for Physician Assistant curriculum; in conjunction with faculty, develop strategies for delivering competency-based instruction.
    • In conjunction with faculty and staff, supervise the selection and development of course materials.
    • Assimilate and maintain national accrediting body competencies into core areas reflecting the knowledge for successful completion of board examinations and skills for entry-level positions needed by the healthcare community.
    • Assure that clinical and observational experiences meet the expectations of the Physician Assistant program and contribute toward established and expected outcomes for students.
    • In conjunction with staff and faculty, coordinate the development, implementation, and monitoring/evaluation of policies and procedures affecting student clinical experiences.
    • Provide leadership for formulation and revision of policies, procedures and objectives as needed for the program.
    • Prepare staff schedules and all faculty teaching assignments.
    • Supervise and evaluate all Physician Assistant faculty and staff (including the program’s medical director).
    • Provide leadership in the recruitment, selection and orientation of program faculty and staff.
    • Participate in College events and student recruitment activities (including but not limited to: open house, tours, summer camps, career fairs).
    • Oversee the establishment and monitoring of the selective admissions criteria for the Physician Assistant studies program.
    • Assist with student advisement, both students in program and those seeking entrance into the PA program.
    • Facilitate cooperative relationships with affiliating clinical agencies and the PA program
    • In collaboration with faculty, facilitate faculty and PA team meetings.
    • Assist with preparing proposals for additional source funding.
  • Student Service
    • In conjunction with faculty and staff, provide a Physician Assistant student orientation program.
    • Oversee and maintain accurate student records, regularly evaluate student progress, and assist in followup studies on the placement and achievement of program graduates.
  • Accreditation
    • Complete documentation necessary for continuing accreditation by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants as part of ongoing program evaluation.
    • Actively participate in the ARCPA Accreditation process by working with program faculty, staff, and College leadership to maintain continued accreditation.
    • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum for PA education and incorporation of instructional experiences within the curriculum designed to achieve and maintain compliance with ARCPA standards.
    • Oversee and assist with data collection, outcomes assessment and document construction for accreditation selfstudy and required reports, annual assessment reporting and program review.
  • Fiscal Management
    • Develop, in coordination with the Assistant Dean, and administer the program's cost center budget.
    • Identify and assist the Assistant Dean in procurement of specialized equipment necessary for curriculum area.
    • Supervise the purchase of program equipment and supplies.
  • Program and Professional Development
    • Act as contact person for program information distribution to interested parties.
    • Identify appropriate healthcare professionals to participate on the advisory committee; facilitate meetings and activities of advisory committee.
    • Participate in local, state and national professional organizations.
    • Attend continuing education programs for self-improvement and program development.
  • Instructional
    • May teach up to six (6) credits or eight (8) contact hours or equivalent per semester in consultation with and approval of the immediate supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve on College committees as requested or designated.
