Overview

The Director of Finance/Controller supports and collaborates with the chief financial officer in establishing and directing the financial operations of the College to support the strategic plan of the College, while ensuring the financial stability of the organization. This position will function as the chief accounting officer at the College and be responsible for organizing, directing and evaluating a wide variety of financial activities across the College. Flexible schedule to meet deadlines of office-hours beyond the normal workweek may be required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field. Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certified Public Accountant. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Eight (8) years of related experience in finance and accounting. Required
  • Five years of supervisory experience. Required
  • Detail knowledge of, and experience in, higher education and not-for-profits. Preferred
  • Public accounting experience. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Proven managerial and leadership ability, including but not limited to strategic planning, personnel, budget and resource management. Required
  • Demonstrated experience in short and long-term financial planning, accounting, financial systems, treasury and debt management. Required
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, project management, problem recognition and resolution skills. Required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Required
  • Ability and experience developing, implementing and maintaining internal controls to effectively safeguard and manage finance resources. Required

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises and maintains quality control of the following areas: accounts payable, general ledger, fixed assets accounting, grants accounting, project accounting, financial reporting, IRS form 990-T reporting, budget, audit and various reporting to federal agencies, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania State University
  • Working closely with the CFO to develop and administer fiscal plans, policies, and procedures in compliance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States, (GAAP).
  • Responsible for planning and developing the annual budget process to formulate the College's overall budget, including all funds and the capital budget; evaluate budget proposals, perform analyses and develop alternative scenarios.
  • Develop and provide training and consultative assistance to administrative units of the College in the interpretation of financial and budget information, financial policies and procedures, and the College's financial systems.
  • Ensure the integrity of the College's fiscal capacity through the implementation, execution, and ongoing review of internal financial, operational, and compliance controls.
  • Direct financial reporting to meet regulatory and campus needs.
  • Design, establish, and maintain the organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish organizational goals and objectives, while fostering a service-oriented, innovative work environment that encourages employee collaboration, productivity, efficiency, and creativity with the College's mission and service to students as the guiding principles.
  • Coordinate the annual audit. Assign, oversee, review, and approve the preparation of account analysis and reconciliations of general ledger accounts, and assist in the preparation of the financial statements and footnotes for the audit.
  • Prepares analytical reports to understand financial results and trends.
  • Monitor all activity related to financial aid expenditures and the drawdown of federal funds to cover financial aid disbursements.
  • Responsible for the completion of the schedule of expenditures of federal awards, SEFA and the coordination of the audit work for the single audit.
  • Responsible for the filing of the IRS form 990-T.
  • Direct the accounts payable process and ensure the timely filing of all related tax filings, 1099s, sales tax.
  • Direct accounting activities related to federal and state grants and contracts and ensure accurate and timely reporting to federal, state and other granting agencies

    Pay Transparency

    Based on minimum education and experience qualifications the yearly salary range is $100,000 - $115,000.
