Overview

The Gallery Intern will assist with all aspects of The Gallery including exhibition preparation and installation, writing about art for online publication, and visitor interaction. This is a temporary part-time position to work up to 25 hours throughout the term of employment for approximately 10 -12 weeks. Must be flexible to meet the needs of the Gallery.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor Program. Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in appropriate discipline. Preferred
  • Enrollment in a graduate program in Art History or relevant discipline. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of prior field-related internship and/or prior experience in other areas of higher education or Art History. Preferred

  • Evidence of creativity and ingenuity in writing and problem solving. Required
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Required
  • Self-starter. Required

Responsibilities

  • Intern will work with gallery director on a specific project or projects.
  • Research and compose descriptions for objects in the Penn College Art on Campus collection.
  • Research and curate themed displays from the Penn College Art on Campus collection.
  • Assist with social media posts for the gallery
  • Assist gallery director with exhibition related tasks, following art handling best practices, including coordination and planning; packing and unpacking art; installing and deinstalling art.
  • Utilize Artwork Archive software to ensure the database is accurate, adding information as needed to object records.
  • Direct tours and act as Gallery spokesperson.
  • Create educational materials related to current or upcoming exhibitions
  • Follow appropriate opening and closing procedures for the Gallery during open hours.
  • Greet Gallery patrons, oversee sign-in procedures, and monitor activity in the Gallery.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service while attending the Gallery front desk.
  • Be knowledgeable of Gallery rules and regulations.
  • Communicate with Gallery Director on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain the physical space and inventory of the gallery and workroom with a high degree of security.
  • Suggest additional programming and services to support the goals of The Gallery.
  • Physical Standards and Special Job Features

    • May require some lifting not to exceed 50 lbs.
    • Requires climbing a ladder.

    Pay Transparency

    Hourly rate is $15.00.
