Overview

The Orientation Intern will be an internship position selected through the NODA (Association for Orientation, Transition, and Retention) Internship Program or by advertising through Higher Education media outlets. The Orientation Intern will assist with all aspects of the New Student Orientation and Welcome Week programs. The selected candidate must reside in College-provided housing.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree In appropriate discipline. Required
  • Enrollment in a graduate program in Student Affairs, Higher Education or relevant discipline. Preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  •  Valid and in State Valid Driver's License. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in orientation or other areas of student affairs. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Evidence of creativity and ingenuity in developing programs and solving problems. Required
  • Developed organizational skills. Required
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, and the public in an active environment. Required
  • Ability to train and motivate people. Required
  • Self-starter. Required

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop goals for the internship experience.
  • Assist with the training and development of the student orientation leaders prior to the start of the summer orientation program.
  • Assist with motivation, recognition, and assessment of the Orientation Leaders during the New Student Orientation sessions in June and July.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation sessions.
  • Assist with developing a robust Parent and Family experience.
  • Work in a variety of other areas based on time and the intern's interest, including but not limited to: Student Engagement, Student Organizations, Diversity and Cultural Programs, Residence Life, Homecoming and Parent & Family Weekend, and Welcome Weekend.
  • Physical Standards and Special Job Features

    • May require some lifting of program materials not to exceed 50 lbs.
    • Ability to move freely about campus.

    Pay Transparency

    Hourly rate is $15.00.
