Overview

The Clinical Director, Nursing will maintain a current, active, unencumbered registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Clinical Director will be responsible for the evaluation of each clinical site and part-time faculty, monitoring of clinical experiences, along with exploration of new and alternative clinical sites. In addition, this individual will lead the mentorship and orientation program for all full-time and part-time faculty and assist in the development, scheduling, and maintenance of clinical offerings within the Division of Nursing. This person will also assist with prospective student inquiries and tours. Some work hours beyond the normal schedule will be required to include some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the students and the Division of Nursing. Traveling to clinical sites within a 100-mile radius. Occasional overnight travel.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in nursing and Master of Science in nursing. Required
  • Doctorate degree in nursing, education or a closely related field. Preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current, active, unencumbered registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) years of clinical experience working in a registered nurse role. Required
  • Two (2) years of experience in nursing education and/or clinical education. Required
  • Experience with Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing standards and ACEN accreditation standards. Preferred
  • Experience with maintenance of academic programs in accordance with curricular standards. Preferred


ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to set and meet goals and objectives with reasonable time parameters. Required
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with faculty, staff, students, administration, affiliate site personnel, and the public. Required
  • Ability and willingness to adopt the Division of Nursing philosophy and serve as a role model to students and faculty. Required
  • Functional ability with microcomputers and ability with and/or willingness to learn database and spreadsheet applications used in the office. Required
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, challenging, and stressful environment. Required
  • Must be certified in CPR at the Basic Life Support level or higher and maintain certification. Required
  • Must meet and maintain health and safety requirements (MMR, hepatitis B, varicella, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, COVID-19, and annual influenza vaccination, PPD testing, etc.) as required for nursing students. Required
  • Must maintain current, active unencumbered registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Required
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license. Required

 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate clinical sites to ensure they are aligned to provide a positive educational experience for nursing students.
  • Evaluate part time faculty per faculty agreement/college policy.
  • Organize and monitor clinical experiences to ensure appropriateness and relevance to teaching and learning standards.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences, Directors, and other team members with exploring and recommending additional clinical sites to maintain or expand clinical experiences, appropriate to student learning.
  • Explore various scheduling options for each clinical course.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors in maintaining compliance with clinical agency policy, procedures, and contracts.
  • Visit and communicate with contracted clinical sites on a regular basis to develop and maintain a productive learning environment.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors to ensure consistency of clinical group experiences.
  • Work with the Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences, Directors, and other staff to plan clinical placements of students each semester and to develop and coordinate clinical rotation grids.
  • Develop and maintain a log of part time clinical faculty experiences to include past and present assignments, areas of clinical specialties, preferences, educational degree, etc. to facilitate assignment planning.
  • Ensure consistency of clinical experiences with course objectives e.g. clinical site selection, clinical hours, and student clinical evaluations.
  • Assist faculty with student clinical problems, including student evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Evaluate and lead the mentoring and orientation programs for full and part time faculty and new staff within the nursing department.
  • With Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors, mentor faculty on day to day College policy and procedures.
  • Monitor the initial and ongoing orientation of part time faculty to clinical sites.
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences, Directors, and faculty recommend appropriate clinical faculty substitution for coverage of the clinical unit as needed.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors with decision making regarding delays and cancellations for clinical experiences.
  • Assist with prospective on the spot student tours and inquiries from Admissions.
  • Conduct departmental tours for prospective students and families in coordination with the Dean of the School of Nursing & Health Science, other health science directors, and admissions.
  • Assist with marketing, recruitment, selection, and orientation of students into programs within the Division of Nursing.
  • Participate in Penn College events e.g. Open House, nursing pinning ceremony, commencement, etc.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors with on campus new student orientation sessions as needed.
  • Provide advising responsibilities for both scheduled advisement sessions and individual advising.
  • Attend continuing education programs for self improvement, program development, and to keep current on other nursing related and accreditation issues.
  • Assist with the process of preparation of the master schedule, including input related to classroom, campus lab, and clinical sites for review by the Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences.
  • Participate in teaching team, faculty organization, nursing program committees, accreditation committees, affiliating schools, and nursing advisory meetings.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences, Directors, and faculty with the development and revision of the nursing student handbook.
  • Assist in strategies to promote the recruitment, advising, and retention of students.
  • Assist with planning of student observation assignments, preceptorships, and practicum experiences.
  • Assist with the evaluation and analysis of data from student and graduate surveys for the purpose of outcomes assessments and program improvements.
  • Supervise the Student Laboratory Assistant for Nursing

  • ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist simulation lab coordinators with the streamlining of clinical and lab processes for consistency and ease of use by faculty and students. e.g. skill check offs, skill remediation process, etc.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors with grant proposals and follow up activities.
  • Assist Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors with upgrades/updates of program space and equipment.
  • Serve on College and school committees as requested.
  • Make recommendations to the Assistant Dean of Nursing & Health Sciences and Directors for faculty professional development.
  • Represent the Penn College Division of Nursing through participation in the activities of professional and civic organizations and foster relationships that open doors for internships and employment for students.
  • Physical Standards and Special Job Features

    • Must be able to meet all agency requirements as mandated for clinical assignments.

    Pay Transparency

    Based on minimum education and experience qualifications the yearly salary range is $80,000 - $89,000.
