Librarian, Metadata and Discovery Initiatives (172-day)

The faculty will provide services supporting information literacy, including instruction and consultation, selection of resources to support programs in collaboration with academic schools, leadership in dissemination of information literacy awareness, and reference services to students, faculty, staff and others. In addition, this person will create, maintain and enhance catalog records and metadata of library materials in diverse formats. This person will ensure consistency and integration of descriptive information and records across varied integrated library and information systems to maximize connectivity of library resources with outside information systems (i.e., web search engines, digital library collections and resource catalogs, etc.).

 

Schedule: The hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

EDUCATION

• Master's Degree in Library Science or in Library and Information (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution. Required
• Master's Degree or undergraduate degree in another discipline, preferably one related to one of the College's programs. Preferred
• Coursework in digital resources and services. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

• One (1) year of multifaceted full-time librarian experience, preferably in an academic setting. Required
• One (1) year experience cataloging using MARC, RDA and metadata formats. Required
• Teaching experience, preferably including information literacy instruction. Required
• Experience doing collection development in academic libraries. Preferred
• Experience or coursework in digital content or digital archival systems (ContentDM or other archival systems). Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

• Effective oral and written communication skills. Required
• Proficiency with computers and requisite software packages. Required

 

• Provide library instruction in accordance with faculty and student needs.
• Provide reference assistance, including consultation, to students and faculty.
• Select and maintain, with faculty assistance, library collections in assigned subject.
• Collaborate with faculty and administrators in assigned subject areas in the library component of program reviews, accreditations and program assessments.
• Create and maintain bibliographic records that facilitate discovery of the library’s resources in multiple formats in the WorldShare Management System (WMS) using current metadata standards and emerging metadata such as linked data.
• Ensure consistency and integration of descriptive information and local controlled vocabulary of resource records across all library systems to provide effective integration.
• Collaborate and engage with the Acquisitions and Technical Services department and the Information Technology Initiatives librarian to provide integration of resource records and support a robust user-centered discovery environment.
• Provide leadership in evaluating, strategizing and implementing emerging metadata practices, such as linked data.
• Promote library resources and services to faculty and students.
• Promote and support information literacy among faculty and students.
• In accordance with ACRL Academic library standards, strive to exercise effective leadership, assessment, and guidance in appropriate aspects of all library services.
• Engage in professional development activities.
• Contribute to the betterment of the library through library team participation.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contribute to the betterment of the college through college-wide committee participation.
• Participate in the activities of regional and national library and academic or professional association and consortia.

Commensurate with credentials submitted as applied to the College’s Faculty Salary System. As a point of reference, the salary range for new full-time faculty hired in various disciplines throughout the College for the 2025/26 academic year is $61,969 – $79,813. The wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for full-time teaching faculty, counselors and librarians (all regular College funded positions and certain grant/contract funded positions) are determined by the negotiated Agreement between Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Penn College Education Association. If you are currently receiving an annuity from the State or Public School Employees’ Retirement System, employment at Pennsylvania College of Technology may affect your annuity status. If you are currently a member of either the State or Public School Employees’ Retirement System you may be required to contribute into the System.
