Overview

Repair, maintain, and install electronic equipment and computer control systems across the School, provide on-going consultations to the faculty and work with problems associated with the manufacture of goods and projects identified by the Plastics Innovation Resource Center (PIRC). Additionally, incumbent will work with faculty on original solutions to electronic and computer control problems necessary for the delivery of instruction. Must work unsupervised at various locations across campus.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Associate's Degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience that qualifies the person to perform responsibilities and duties of this position. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Work experience in the maintenance and service of complex electronic systems. Required
  • Work experience in a manufacturing environment using computer technology to control equipment, process, and/or inventory. Required

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. Required
  • Knowledge of machine interface techniques. Preferred
  • Knowledge of materials handling concepts, robotics, and CNC. Preferred
  • Knowledge of various welding equipment. Preferred

 

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose problems and perform minor and major servicing and repairs on electrical/electronic equipment, instrumentation and electronics manufacturing control systems for robots, CNC machining centers, laser systems, welding power sources, and fiber optic systems, e.g., wiring and rewiring, testing for problems and repairing circuit boards.
  • Consult with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) representatives and repair departments as necessary when initial diagnosis and repair procedures fail.
  • Assist the Automated Manufacturing and Electronics faculty with instructional and technical projects designed to interface with computer integrated manufacturing system.
  • Repair and perform maintenance of Electrical, Electronic, and Welding equipment used for instructional purposes.
  • Interface CAD/CAM PC Labs with machining centers.
  • Design, build, install, and test interface circuitry for customizing inhouse equipment, i.e., CNC and robots.
  • Document communications protocol for all CNC, Robotics, and related computer equipment for integrating machines into a network.
  • Provide assistance to the PIRC's Project team.
  • Recommend to Dean of Engineering Technologies equipment necessary to meet instructional objectives.
  • Ensure proper configurations and installations of resources to effectively deliver PIRC projects, training and demonstrations.
  • Keep accurate documentation (drawings and written) of repairs, system configurations, and software/hardware changes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist vendors when necessary with installation, setup and testing of new automated or related manufacturing equipment.

Physical Standards and Special Job Features

  • Lifting not to exceed 40 lbs. required.
  • May need to work on equipment from ladders.
  • Must be able to maneuver among machinery set up in the labs and climb over and under large equipment in process of doing repairs.

Pay Transparency

Based on minimum education and experience qualifications the hourly range is $25.64 - $29.74.
