Overview

The Welding Maintenance & Inventory Specialist will be responsible for service and maintenance of equipment in the welding laboratories. In addition, they will maintain an inventory of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies; dispense instructional materials in an orderly fashion; and coordinate ordering of parts/materials for the various welding labs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Associate's Degree in welding, metal fabrication, mechatronics, machining, or related discipline. Preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years experience in equipment service and/or maintenance. Preferred
  • One (1) year experience with inventory management. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to read and to perform basic arithmetic. Required
  • Willingness to attend workshops to learn how to repair welding equipment if necessary. Required
  • Ability to use microcomputers and appropriate software or ability to learn. Required
  • Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. Required
  • Basic understanding of the repair of mechanical equipment. Preferred
  • High general mechanical aptitude including the ability to run shears, cranes, plasma cutters and oxy-fuel torches. Preferred

 

Responsibilities

  • Schedule or perform regular preventative maintenance on welding equipment, including but not limited to, hand grinders, welding power sources, oxyacetylene regulators, and foot pedals.
  • Diagnose equipment breakdowns and recommend cost-effective repair solutions.
  • Perform minor repairs on welding/fabrication equipment, e.g., hand grinders, TIG torches, oxyacetylene regulators, foot pedals, and other equipment located in Welding Shop.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain an inventory tracking system for all expendable supplies, major tools/components and materials for the welding laboratories.
  • Order and receive parts, supplies, and materials.
  • Store, dispense, receive and monitor tools, equipment, and instructional supplies used by faculty and students.
  • Maintain clean and orderly arrangement of the toolroom and the materials storage areas.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a system for logging all maintenance on equipment located in Welding Shop to include repair costs, replacement parts numbers, function of parts replaced, cause of malfunction, and prevention methods. Monitor repair records (log) and advise Assistant Dean regarding replacement of machinery.
  • Attend trainings, as needed, to acquire skills to to efficiently conduct welding equipment repairs.
  • Promptly report loss, theft, or breakage of tools, equipment, and supplies to Department Head(s) or the appropriate instructor.
  • Source pricing on minor tools, consumables, and equipment; prepare purchase requisition forms and obtain quotes in accordance with College purchasing policies.
  • Assist faculty with lab setup, including the preparation of metal coupons and beveling pipe and plate.
  • Provide training and supervision to students in basic welding/cutting, equipment troubleshooting, overhead crane operation, and OSHA regulations.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organize activities of casual parttime toolroom attendants, as necessary.
  • Answer telephone and relay messages to instructional areas as needed.

May require some heavy lifting not to exceed 50 lbs.

Pay Transparency

Based on minimum education and experience qualifications the hourly range is $22.80 - $25.81.
